Greetings All,

This FAQ should help to address some basic technical issues with MW.

Introduction:

We here at EDIGames think that Morning's Wrath is an excellent game, and has brought a lot of fun to players. This being said MW is not without it's set of quirks. Being that MW is now three years old and been in the hands of many we've seen the majority of issues that can occur.

Q: Sometimes when I'm playing the game it crashes inexplicably, what's going on?

A: There do seem to be some issues particularly surrounding system load (memory usage) and multi-threading that can cause some sporadic crashes. These are usually fairly seldom, and hard to reproduce, so as a gamer we recommend that you Save Often, and run MW on a clean boot without any major programs running in the background. Using lower resolutions can also help to reduce the system load. So in the event of a crash restart your machine and try to reload a save game and play through the part again, chances are you wont get it a second time.

Q: I try to open a door on the second floor and a crash happens

A: There is a known issue where by accidentally killing certain story-important enemies (through use of spells that can go through walls) can result in an inability to solve the related puzzle.

Thanks Raymond, I've been having less and less hangups, especially when I save often.

Two more questions though:
My screen resolution is 1280x800, will running on 800x600 (something my laptop can do) help with the freezing problem?

Strangest issue for last:
I found Morning's Wrath on Game Tap, and on both the Game Tap version and the full game I downloaded from EDI, I get hung up around the Queen's Brooch artifact. The game spazzes, and I get the Error menu ( check for solutions, close, debug). Is this also a memory usage issue?

Using a lower resolution can potentially help given that it will use fewer system resources.

As for the queens brooch, I don't think we have any errors recorded about that, so it could be a memory issue but it could also be a genuine bug.

If you find a way to reliably reproduce it let me know (via email Raymond@EDIGames.com) and make sure you have a save spot near where the issue happens and I'll see if I can trace what's going on :)

Thanks again Raymond. (Has anyone told you that you are amazing lately? Don't worry, you are.)

Last thing until I test the Brooch: Where are the save files? I have checked the Save folder, but it only has a txt file in it. I really need to get rid of two of my saves (they were bug checks for my first crash).

Also, can you put a number on the odds of a save file being corrupted? I've started keeping two saves just in case, but it still bugs me...

Your saves should be in...I believe the name is:

program files\MorningsWrath\saves

are you using XP or Vista?

vista, which means that it is kinda hard to find hidden files most of the time...

the file path is:
C:\Program Files\Ethereal Darkness Interactive\Mornings Wrath\saved

while we are poking around folders...
Can I open the music files in the data folder with something other than Yahoo Jukebox? (I really like the music box theme.) And at the risk of being too nosy, what kind of program could I use to open the sprite files?

hehe, you can't open the sprite files, they are in a format called GMB (we developed it) it's a 32bit Run Length Encoded (RLE) format, so you'd need to use our special viewer.

Okay chances are the issue you're having is that Vista no longer allows non-raised write access to the program files directory (MW was made before vista so this wasn't a concern then) this means whenever files are written to the program files directory or it's sub directory vista-reroutes those saves to a special directory somewhere else apparently this directory comes in the form of:

“C:\Users\(USER NAME)\AppData\Roaming\” so you might try looking in there.

also since this is a problem with many other pre-vista games, you might try running Morning's Wrath as an administrator (right click, run as administrator) which might allow you to save your files to the program files directory.

you can open the audio files in any program that loads .ogg vorbis files, I particularly like using Nullsoft WinAmp.

Thanks again Raymond
I just decided to set all of the games I use that are pre-Vista to run at admin level. I only hope that my saves don't suddenly vanish... If they do, I blame Bill Gates for putting Vista out too early! :|

Just tried to see if running Morning's Wrath as an Admin would make me lose my saves.... and it did.....

What type of file would the saves be, and what would their names be?
This was the farthest that I had gotten...

Yeah, the moment you run as admin it will essentially re-route where it looks.

They are .mws files, you may need to make sure your settings for viewing hidden files and file extensions are on.

Do you know how to do that on Vista?
I'll search for .mws in the meantime....

Today I managed to redo 5 hrs 6 min of gameplay for Golden Sun 2 in 2:22, so I might do even better than my last saves of MW...

Thanks, and wish me luck...

This should be the last thing that I have to post here for awhile (knocks on wood) I hope:

1) Raymond thank you so much for putting up with my constant pestering, you are truly amazing for helping me so much.

2) If you don't mind, how do you make Vista show hidden files?

3) It is normal for Vista to give an annoying "This program did not close properly" message (with options to close, search for solutions, debug) right?

Thank you so so so much
Michael

PS: As thankful as I am for your help, I would also be very happy if you also went to sleep at a decent hour. (I know its not good for my health to stay up till 5:40AM.)
