Would anyone care to give some hints or help to new players (like me)?
For example, what would be the easiest initial path to take?

Also, other than Gametap, are there any other places to get Morning's Wrath? All the links on the Morning's Wrath page seem to be mostly non-existent...

I am playing a new Morning character now, and one way to quick power
up is to abuse the health/mana caches in the secret study. Fill up your
inventory and toolbelt with helth/mana potions, and then kill off
segmendrada in the underground. (I use fire blast fire blast to start
immediately,
and then once I put a few points into Spirit, I work with fire blast fire blast fire blast)

There are two groups to the east (right) of the entrance from the mana
pool. Stay near the bottom, and after the two groups, go back and there
is another group or two to the west of the entrance. Then go fill up on
potions, and go back and do it again.

Save and save often. If you die, there is no continue, you load a save
file and try again. If you didn't make a save file, you start over.
(learned that the hard way...)

Don't wander too far into the underground. Some areas are safe, and
some dangerous, especially for new characters. If you hear a thunder
like sound (probably an ancient warlock casting spells your way) RUN!!
Run back to the mana pool. They'll stop chasing you after a little bit, but
you don't want to stop running too soon, and then eat a spell and have to re-load.

The mobs respawn each time you enter the area, (and also after a short
period of time from when you killed them). For the most part, mobs don't
drop things when you kill them. (you do get something when you fight the
dark prince, and another one for the 'invisible' thief character that steals
your artifact upstairs, but that's all that come to mind)

Put your points more into Vitality and Spirit than the other three.
The other three stats max out at 100, with or without item bonuses.
Vitality and Spirit (max health and mana respectively) have significantly
higher caps. (I don't have numbers yet)

You will finish the game with 2 artifacts left over. (if you get them all,
including all of them in the underground tomb) So look at the modifiers
on them as you get them, and keep the ones that are most beneficial to
your play style.

Melee is overrated, and there is no encumberance, so strength isn't too
important. It's more important in the beginning, because weaker spells
sometimes bring the mobs at you faster than you can kill them, but with
enough vitality, you should be able to survive it.

Don't spend all of your stat points as soon as you get them. Wisdom is a
good one for spell damage, and Vitality and Spirit are also good. I like to
hoard them until I have an artifact that I need stats for to use, then I
raise the stats to the required level, and equip the artifact.

I think that's more than enough blabbering for now. Sorry that isn't a
little more coherent, I'll try to be coherent in the FAQ.

Thanks CrimsonDagger. That helps alot.

One more question: How many times can you stack fire and blast spell effects and does said spell need to be in the toolbelt?

Having been slaughtered by the Anchient Warlocks several times I have a question: Once you have run away from the Warlocks (in the Underground) will they ever stop hanging around where you left them at?

I have fled the room just past the Mana Well just to return and get slaughtered, so I thought I'd ask.

PS: You guys are awesome for replying so fast.

Since there are 12 spaces in the spellbook, you could stack it six times,
i.e. Fire Burst Fire Burst Fire Burst Fire Burst Fire Burst Fire Burst

I don't know that it would be particularly necessary. I think that
Fire Burst Fire Burst was enough to kill all the weak mobs in one or
two hits, and once you learn to control that line, you can start hitting two
or three segmendrada with one spell, just wait for them to line up, and
aim for the back one. Then 2 spells is 3 casualties.

I never ran into a problem with the warlock following me all the way
back to the underground gate. I played with it today, and found that
yes, he just waited there. I tried save/reload, still there. I tried
closing/reopen/reload, still there. Waited him out 5 minutes in the
mana well room, still there.

I don't know if he's going back. 5 minutes was more than enough time
for the area to reload, so he may just be there. Fill your toolbelt with
potions, maybe 7 health and 2 mana, or 6/3, and put together a big
string, save and go for it. Have fingers ready to spam potions.
Even with Morning immediately before the final attack, (all buffed out)
he still does a bit of damage as soon as I walk in.

Another strategy might be to lure him away from the entrance, just get
in there and run to the houses on the right, you might be able to clear a
corner and lose him.

I tried walking all the way to the third floor of the castle, about as far as
you could get away to get the area to reset. Still there.
You're going to have to face him. Or fall back to an earlier save
before you put him there. Or start over? I've started over so many
times that I know most of the dialog.

Another plan would be to go clear all the castle side quests, and dump a few of those
artifacts in the well to get a stronger spell to attack with? If you could get
to burst, you could set up fire burst static burst crystal burst. Walking in
and spamming that a few times would certainly take him down. You would
check how many you could cast from full mana, then have enough mana
potions in your belt to refill, and spell x2, mana potion, spell x2, mana,
spell mana... something to that effect.

The warlock isn't all that tough, just tough offensively. Note that agility
has an effect on spell casting speed, so any agility boost would help,
also wisdom for spell damage.

Once you get around that warlock, you might want to start
seeking him out. The segmendrada are 200xp apiece, and the warlock is
3000k. That's three milestones per kill, 15 attribute points. (5 per milestone x 3)

I'm playing another go round and putting my points almost exclusively
into Vitality and Spirit. So I have plenty of health and mana. I sought
the Warlock to the east below the house with the elemental gates and
stone tomb. It took 2 or three spells to take him. I think i was using
4x Fire Burst. I haven't gone after any artifacts yet, I'm just working
all the milestones. (which stop at 100k if I remember correctly)

I noticed it was 5 segmendrada to hit a milestone, and I jumped 3 when
I killed the Warlock. Much faster. So I'll heal up, save, and go after the
warlock. Finish him, heal up, save, and go after the warlock again.

So long as you save, if you get killed a few times trying this, the quick
exp jump I think would be worth it.

If you go north of the underground throne room, just go north on the
main street to the throne room, and then slide around the left side,
staying close to the wall. When you get near the light tower to the NW
of the throne room, there are 4 segmendrada there, then at the NW corner of that muddy patch, you'll be able to see 2 Kholsetan Giants
to the NW. They should spot you and start wandering down.
Since they only attack melee, you can kill them before they get to you
and net 2000xp apiece. Much safer than taking on Warlocks.

Bring enough potions, and after you kill them, just go to the north wall
of the throne room, and wait for the area to repopulate. Kill the 4
segmendrada, and maybe 1 more from the west, and then take out
two more giants. If you have a full inventory before you go, you could
get quite a few of them knocked out before having to return.

Having played a little longer, I recommend finding an artifact that you can live without as soon as possible so you can put it in the Mana Well. Once you have done that, you get the Stone and Triple spell effects.

Fire Blast Stone Blast Fire Triple Stone Triple can do some great damage and is really useful on the second floor of the castle and when surronded by zombies (I forgot how to spell the name :? ).

A note to anyone who feels like experimenting with magic:

If you feel like experimenting in an area with enemies (like the lost city) make sure you have plenty of Health and Mana potions and to stay away from the Warlocks. THE WARLOCKS WILL FOLLOW YOU TO THE WELL AND THEY WILL WAIT THERE. So be VERY careful.
